Palawan: Relax and Enjoy

Hello loves,

How have you all been lately? I'm currently in the province with my relatives and we've been spending some quality time together. I'm sharing to you guys my Palawan trip in this post. I think, of all the places that I've been to, Palawan is by far the best in terms of overall experience. It really is a place you can't miss out on. I had high hopes for Palawan, truth be told, and not once was I disappointed.

We were in Puerto Princessa for a night, then we traveled to El Nido the following night. We stayed in El Nido for 3 days and 2 nights. In that short time, I fell in love with the place. I think I'll go back to Palawan again and again and again and never get tired of it. You can spend your days hopping from one picturesque island on to the next and still find something extraordinary in the next island. Just being there is an experience in itself. Of course, it's not all wonderful.

There are a few hagglers and some places that are difficult to visit but you can all charge it to experience. I think the only unpleasant thing about Palawan was the airport but if you compare it to other local airports, it's not that bad. What the facilities lacked was made up by the service of the people in Palawan. Of all the provinces I went to, they were truly and genuinely nice people. They had a certain personality that was likable and they made us feel as if it was a pleasure to be in their company.

From the tour guides, to the drivers, to random people you meet on the road, they're very friendly and they're open to helping you out if you need help in asking directions, someone taking your photo, or even having a friendly chat.

When it comes to food, I really have no complains. The Inn that we stayed in in Puerto Princessa had really delicious danggit, or dried fish. I highly suggest eating at some of the local delicacies in the area to get the overall experience of the city. They have a variety of exotic dishes such as Tamilok, or bamboo worm, and crocodile sisig or tapa. Of course, they have the usual breakfast food like bacon and bread and such. But if you're really adventurous, try some of the local delicacies.

On of the many perks of touring Palawan is the access to a vast ocean. Meaning, it's a seafood haven. I have always loved freshly caught seafood when it's cooked since you taste the fish, feel its tender meat, and get to enjoy it in numerous ways. I've seen lobsters as big as my forearm, clams as big as my fist, and fishes that's as long as my arm. It's really a feast for seafood lovers.

I also love the food they served us during our island tours. You can enjoy prawns, grilled squid, whole fishes, and even from tropical fruits as your lunch during your island hopping tours. The fishes are always fresh, the squid soft, and the prawns sweet. Yes, prawns are sweet. No, it's not because of the sauce. It's naturally sweet because it's fresh and the innards haven't gone bitter yet. They also offer you yellow watermelon instead of the usual red. I don't know why, but it's the small details like that that truly endeared me to Palawan and the people living in the island. They go the extra mile for you without adding to the cost you're paying them.

If you're wondering about what tour packages you should get, I'm telling you now that it doesn't really matter. I'm sure that you'll be loving every single one of it. When we got to El Nido, the weather wasn't that great and we had to adjust our tours depending on what the Coast Guard would recommend. There are times where the waves get too rough or the weather doesn't permit you to travel to the farther islands but I can assure you, wherever you might go... It's still worth going to.

Truth be told, I don't usually like taking photos of myself in half body or full body since I consider myself as a fatty. I've got body issues like the next girl, but when I was there in Palawan it seemed like it didn't matter. Due to the high rate of foreign tourists, it had an air of nonchalance. No one cared if you're wearing a size 14 or 16 tankini or bikini. No one cares about your big thighs or your arms that could be mistaken as thighs. It just didn't matter, so I felt safe enough to truly enjoy the scenery and the company I was with at that time.

One tip that I can give you guys about travelling to El Nido and Palawan in general is that, you shouldn't limit yourself to what you planned since the tours are subject to different conditions. One of which is the safety to travel from one island to the next in a certain tour. Every day, the tour agencies get advisories from the Coast Guard on what tours are cancelled or are not safe to travel. You'll be asked by your tour guides if you want to go to another tour and such. In our case, we had to change our tours on both days we were out island hopping due to the strong waves and the current of the water.

Even though our scheduled tours hadn't pushed through, the alternative tours were equally enjoyable and still breathtaking. You really can do a lot of things in Palawan if you keep your mind and options open. It truly is an adventure you'll be happy to take and experience. I don't think I have ever been so taken by a local province here in the Philippines as much as I have in Palawan. It's just simply a great place to travel to and explore.

Oh yeah, don't forget to re-apply your sunscreen/sunblocks every after island or before you go down the boat. It's really important since there's a high chance you'll get sunburned. It's also important to bring big bottled waters so you can drink in between islands to keep yourself hydrated and to be able to wash your face after dipping into the salty ocean water. You can also bring a cap or hat to help protect your face from extreme burning.

Take it from me guys, I know first hand how terrible it can get if you forget to wash your face with fresh water or if you forget to bring your cap during the island hopping tour. One moment you're happily sunbathing and the next thing you know, you have acne and incredibly sore skin. Please, don't even try it just to see if it will happen to you or not. Hahaha! xx

Holiday 2016

Hello loves,

Holiday season is finally here. I'm off with my mom and our relatives to certain islands here in the Philippines. To be honest with you guys, I'm really having a hard time emotionally right now. I'm not sure when I'll be able to get back on my feet but I really needed this holiday getaway, to get away from everything that's been happening with my life lately. I'm not going to give much detail about it right now, I don't think I'm ready yet. Be rest assured though that I have been talking to people to let off some steam. Surprisingly, talking really does help calm your nerves.

I'm getting sidetracked.

Anyway, I'm currently in Puerto Princessa, Palawan. We had a lot of mishaps on our way to Palawan, from missing our 6AM flight to buying new tickets to getting out 2PM flight on hold to canceling some of our activities to one of our luggage locks getting smashed... It was just one hell of a day. I'm still running on adrenaline and fumes from the day we've had as I'm writing to post now.

But it didn't stop me from appreciating the beauty of being thousands of feet above the ground, seeing the clouds float by, and that dipping feeling in your gut when the plane takes off. It's just a different kind of high that I wouldn't mind experiencing over-and-over again. Then, when I saw the gorgeous sea and the white sand islands and sand bars... it was humbling.

I'm excited to start this holiday season, explore new places, and try out different things. I'm hoping this will help me fight of the emotions that are eating me up inside.

Prom, Prom, Pro-Prom!

Hello loves,

Can you guys feel it? It's that time of the year again. No, not Christmas. Not even Thanksgiving. Oh, you know what I'm talking about! I'm talking about prom season! It's the time for panicking because of last minute dress shopping, looking for cheap prom dresses, and all the things you need to buy to make that once in a lifetime experience special.

Unfortunately, I didn’t have a prom when I was in high school due to some school issues in our batch. But, that never stopped me from window shopping, looking for the perfect dress, and buying it for my graduation party. I think that’s also one reason why I constantly post prom dresses in my blog.

If you haven't noticed in my blog, I like to post about prom dresses, wedding gowns, and just fantasize about a world where wearing a full length dress is the most normal thing in the world. Maybe it's the romantic in me that just loves a good dress. You know?

lace-prom-dress

I came upon one website that makes a variety of dresses from long prom dresses to short ones with classy silhouettes or more modern silhouettes. I wish I knew of websites like this one during my high school years. Although, it’s still a pretty good website to buy cocktail dresses and other formal wears since they’re quite affordable. They have a variety of UK prom dresses, cocktail dresses, and even wedding dresses.

I found this cute short dress with a midriff cut. I think it's absolutely adorable.

I also found some dresses for those who have a strict dress code even for their prom.

I’ve put in this post some of the dresses I found, loved, and might even buy for an event in the future. I hope you guys find this post useful and it helps you in some way to decide where to buy your prom dresses, maybe look for a certain style, or just enjoy reading my thoughts.

Glamulet Black Friday Sale

Hello loves,

How have you guys been lately? I've been juggling my school load, personal life, and family life which translates to the lack of posts here in my blog. I know that I'm a sucky blogger who can't seem to update her blog on a regular basis but I do what I can to share as much as I can to you guys. I'm actually posting today since I just received a message from an online brand that I think you guys will surely like.

You can see on the banner above, Glamulet will be giving away over $1,000,000 worth of shopping vouchers on their website up till the 24th of November. It's part of their Black Friday event and I must say, I'm quite excited for this event. I'm actually sharing this to you guys to help spread the word on such a good deal. I'm still waiting on a reply for a coupon code that I might be able to give to you guys. I'm really keeping my fingers crossed.

They also have an event for the bloggers they contacted which gives us the opportunity to win a Christmas-themed bracelet. The winner will be the one with the most "traffic" or views on their posts. I won't even dream of winning their Christmas edition complete bracelet set since I'm sure that there will be other bloggers who'll have more traffic than I do but that doesn't mean I won't share this awesome deal to you guys. After all, who doesn't love a good sale especially if it's for jewelry. wink

I'll be editing this post once I hear back from Glamulet's team. xx

--------

Edit: I've linked the page where you guys can get a coupon that will be active on Black Friday. All you need to do is click on the banner (or this link) and it'll redirect you to the page. Just choose which coupon you want and viola! It'll be sent to your e-mails.

I'm also thinking of giving away the voucher Glamulet is giving me to one of you guys. It's a 50% off on all of their products on the website. So if you want that, just share this blog post on your social media accounts using the tag (#BFEGlamulet) while tagging a friend and I'll do a raffle on all of the people who shared. I'll announce the winner on November 18. Sounds good? Cool.

Good Morning

I think a big difference with the person who I was in the past and the person who I am now is the fact that I can look at myself and my photos without a sense of self-loathing and discrimination. I can actually tell you guys that I'm happy. I'm at peace with what I look like. I'm not gonna lie and say that I feel like that every day but on most days, I do feel good about myself. I came from looking at myself in the mirror and being critical about every aspect of my face and body to looking at the mirror and greeting myself a good morning.

I think the fact that I've started to appreciate the little "flaws" that I have and turn it into interesting points or quirks is a positive move towards finally accepting who I am. I know a lot of girls and women out there are critical with their bodies, it's only natural. We all have our insecurities and those small voices at the back of our heads that keep on telling us we're ugly, too fat, and unworthy. But you know what, that's okay. I am ugly on some days. I am fat because I don't watch what I eat and I eat whenever and whatever I want in excess. I do feel like I'm not worth a dime on some days because I'm not productive with my life and my choices are questionable.

But, that's okay. It's okay for me to feel like that on some days. It's okay for you to feel like that too.

There's nothing wrong with feeling down and worthless as long as you realize that it's only a phase. What you're feeling now is not permanent. In the ever changing flow of emotion and time, almost everything is inconsequential. Do you know what matters? What matters is your attitude towards self-improvement and the tomorrow you're dreaming of today. I hope you guys think about that and I hope I helped you even if it's just a little bit.

Stay strong.

Sessions Series: Miro Valera

Ikot - Miro Valera

After a lot of thinking and finally having the time to actualize my ideas, I've made the first of (hopefully) many more videos on my YouTube channel. Yes, I do have a channel. I just don't post on it. I'm going to incorporate my channel to this blog and hopefully make a lot of quality content for you guys. I decided the best way to do this is to make a series.

Sessions Series is a series of videos I've taken in Sessions Bar and Resto. It's not a lot but I wanted to share it to you guys since I had a great time attending music events and listening to new bands. As you guys know, I've rekindled my love for OPM and have been going to gigs and music festivals. You guys will be seeing a lot of music related posts soon. I'll be posting Mayonnaise's album tour, the rest of the Fete dela Musique posts, and the Indie Night event as well. I'll also be posting some of my travels as well so watch out for that. xx

FGMM: Walang Hanggan

When I first heard this song, I'm not gonna lie, I cried. It made me think about a lot of things that's going on in my life and my relationship. I'm not going to go into further details since I've learned that discussing to other people your personal relationship with your partner, instead of talking to your partner directly, leads to further misunderstanding and distance. But I do want to talk to you guys about this song.

This is an OST (Official Soundtrack) of the Filipino movie, Ang Kwento Nating Dalawa. It talks about the journey couples undergo throughout their relationship. The fire and warmth of a relationship at the beginning of their journey to, sadly, the inevitable cold and bitter end. It asks how a couple goes from making promises of a future together to a future without the other. It asks the other person to come back and try again. As the song says,

"Pangako mo walang hanggan.
Akala ko walang hanggan
pero heto tayo, sa dulo."

If I were to translate those lines from the song, it means "You promised forever. I thought it was forever but here we are, at the end." Poetic, isn't it? ? I truly appreciate this band for giving me a song that is a narrative of the journey many people go through in life. Sometimes, the people we are with now may not necessarily be the people we'll be with in the future. Our promises now may just be distant memories and broken oaths in the future. Often than not, we try to hold on and keep the relationship afloat then later on, we begin to make excuses and be miserable in the relationship. So you ask yourself, "Where did I go wrong? What did I do wrong? Am I not enough?" and it hurts when you realize that the answer to those questions is simply... you don't know.

So guys, enjoy the song. xx

Indie Music Night

indie-music-night-poster

Tomorrow, I'll be going with my cousins to Sessions' Indie Music Night and the bands that will be playing there are worth the watch. For 200 pesos, you'll get to listen to awesome bands and even have a bottle of beer. If you're around the Sandigan Bayan/Don Antonio area, drop on by. I'll be there by 9pm, probably. I'm looking forward to hearing Miles Experience, Jensen and the Flips, Tom's Story, and the other bands as well.

If you've been reading my blog and my older posts, you'll know that I've already seen Miles Experience live during Fete de la Musique in Green Sun, Makati (link to post here). I really liked their sound and the passion they bring to their performances. I've heard Jensen and the Flips via YouTube as well so I'm looking forward to hearing them play live. As for the other bands, I'm looking forward to getting to know them, their sound, and hearing them play live.

After going to Fete de la Musique, I think I've renewed my passion for independent Filipino music. I remember way back 2007 or 2008, I heard Silent Sanctuary even before they made it big and became mainstays in the OPM hit charts. It feels good to know good musicians even before they make it to the mainstream media. You have that sense of satisfaction when you see your band make it big.

I hope you guys will be there tomorrow. If you are, leave a comment! xx

FGMM: Smilky

How can I even begin explaining to you guys how much this song gets me going? If you haven't clicked the play button yet, I'm sure you don't know why I'm being like this but if you did play the song already... You know, don't you? I suggest you hit that play button and enjoy the song.

I'm sharing to you guys another song that's perfect for slow dancing and maybe even a bit of loving. It can easily go from being a loving song to a foreplay in the bedroom in a snap of a finger. The guitar solo is something to look forward to, I promise you. The lyrics of the song is about the need to touch another person under the hazy lights that could only be seen through hooded eyes. The yearning you feel when someone you love is near, the burn you have for your lover, the kind of need that can only be quenched by another person. That's what this song is all about.

I regret not being able to listen to SUD live but I'll make it a promise to not make the same mistake again when the time arises. The next time I'll have the opportunity to watch the band perform live, I'll be there.

[Fete de la Musique] The Sun Manager

As you guys know, I'm doing a Fete de la Musique series post. The first one I wrote can be seen here. I'm not sure how often I'll be posting but I'll make sure to post at least once a week for this series. I really enjoyed the event and it sparked my curiosity towards the local music scene once again.

The Sun Manager was a lovely band to hear during Fete Indie 2016. I had no idea who they were or what their sound was like so hearing them live for the first time was a treat. I loved the laid back vibe their songs have and the fact that they seem to really enjoy performing for their audience. I think one of the things I love about independent musicians is their passion for their craft. Most of the bands I watched in the Fete Indie and Fete Rock stages had so much love and passion for music that it carries you to another level of enjoyment.

FGMM: Love Supreme

WARNING: NSFW due to mild nudity, theme, and violence portrayed in the video.

I've made a post about this band yesterday and I saw it fitting to have my Feel Good Monday Music post about them. I listened to this song, before I heard it live at Fete de la Musique's Indie stage, when I was researching the band line up for the event. I wanted to know the sound of each band so I'd know what time I should go there and I'd have some expectation to their performances.

When I searched for MilesExperience, this was the first video that showed up on the list. I must say, when I heard this song I became a fan of them. Want to know the icing to the cake? The live performance is even better. Once you hear Justin, the guitarist's, intro you'd be grooving to the song from start to finish. Maybe, even asking for more.

This is the type of song you can listen to while writing a post on your blog and you'll feel the flow of the words coming out of you in spades. Like what I'm feeling, right now. You can listen to this song on a rainy night with your eyes closed and just feeling the universe. This is the type of song that seeps into your bones and soothes your soul. So, enjoy guys. xx

[Fete de la Musique] Miles Experience

Last night I went to Green Sun Hotel, Makati to watch and listen to the bands performing in Fete Indie and Fete Rock which are sub stages of the Fete de la Musique event. I had a lot of plans to go stage hopping around the metro but later on decided to stay in Green Sun. I guess their hastag, #WalangAlisanSaGreenSun was right.

Dangerous Woman

This would've been in my Feel Good Music Monday (FGMM) post but I wanted to share to you guys Ariana Grande's song. I know it's already out and a lot of people know the song since it is Ariana Grande but I had to share the song. I never thought I'd say this but I'm loving Ariana's new album. I love the sensual beat and the way Ariana's voice seduces you to loving her. Hahaha! I know, I sounded weird but it's true!

This song is such a baby making song. When I first heard it, I instantly thought, wow... this is kinda turning me on. Hahahaha! Shoot. Scratch what I just said. I'll stop blabbering and just let you enjoy the song. xx

Hold The Door

Excuse me for the title guys. If you get it, I'm sorry. Too soon? If you don't get it, oh how lucky you are that you don't get the reference. I'm sorry if I made you remember that gentle giant again. I thought I could title my post as such 'cos I have a big door behind me. Hahaha! I know. I'm lame like that. Excuse me.

[Foodie Log] Kogi Bulgogi

My mom and I went to this restaurant a few months back when I accompanied her to do some errands. We wanted to try it out since it had a good vibe. My mom ordered bibimbap while I had kimbap. If you guys don't know what those are, I can get into further detail on it in a bit.

Context

If you see the trailers below, you might think... Ahh. Another romance film but this time about a woman and the man she loves who happens to be disabled. How beautiful their love will be and how they will withstand every struggle life sends them. I'm sorry to spoil you but... Yeah. I won't get into it. Me Before You is a movie worth watching for the sake of the story, if you're not that big of a fan of the actors.

I'll just discuss to you guys how much context can do to the storytelling of a movie. If you've read the book, you'll know what I mean when I say that trailers are baits. Just by seeing the trailers alone, you can see that they're advertising this movie as a love story, and it is one, but it's more than JUST a love story. It's a story about love, living, and of choices. I remember reading those last few pages and just... immersing into the story, the characters, the decisions they were making, and how real a work of fiction can get.

[Foodie Log] Pipino

Pipino is by far my favorite restaurant in the Maginhawa area, although they're actually located in Malingap St., because of their selection of vegan and vegetarian food. My parents and I always make it a point to visit the restaurant when we're in the area. I think no one can say no to a good muffin, cupcake, and cake especially if you won't feel guilty for all the additives and toxins you're gonna eat.

If you guys haven't been here before, let me tell you... You've missed out on a lot of good pastries. The restaurant has a lot to offer aside from pastries since they also offer vegan and vegetarian meals. Being an extension of Pino, a restaurant below Pipino that has a variety of bagnet recipes among other things, you're sure that the food there can deliver satisfaction.

[Foodie Log] Moshi Koshi

I went to this restaurant a long time ago and I've recently found some of the photos I took while I was there with my family. If you want to know how long ago this post should have been made, just think of the date of the Run United. That was how long ago these photos were taken and should have been posted here in OFL. I know, I have terrible blogger manners and characteristics. Hahaha!

I ordered this delicious Niku Soba while my family ordered a variety of udons and ramens. As you can see below, their presentation is beautiful which I really appreciate since I'm a visual person. I liked that they had different noodle types we can choose from instead of the usual egg noodles. I think soba is by far my most favorite noodle. I love the texture and the taste is has which to my surprise, some people don't like.

FGMM: Lost Boy

Sometimes, you just need someone to be there for you whenever you feel like a lost child in this vast world we live in. When you've found that one person or that place where you find your center, where you find yourself finally flourish, and where you are finally filling into your potential. I think that's one of the most beautiful and worthwhile event in anyone's life.

I'm not sure if I've found that place yet but I know that I'm starting to find fellow lost boys (and girls) that are also looking for a special place we can all feel like home. I think, or hoping, that what I've found with my set of lost boys (and girls) will eventually turn into our very own Neverland. We'll someday find a place where we can live in a constructive manner.

I hope you guys enjoy this song! xx

Hello, Bataan!

Surprise! Surprise!

Yes, that's right. You're not seeing things. I am posting an outfit post! I know, I'm shocked as well. I don't know what's gotten into me. I've been posting like crazy these past few days. I think it's because of the good mood I'm in. How can I not be? I'm in a gorgeous place, with good food, and so much photo opportunities to help me practice my photography skills. I just love how this weekend had started.

If you haven't seen my previous posts, I'm in Bataan with my parents. We're going around and staying in Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar and then The Plaza Hotel. It's a heritage and relaxation type of weekend. I'm gonna do a separate post for the places I'm going this weekend and the food I'll be eating. I want to share to you guys not the other photos of this look but more of the struggle I had to endure to get this one shot.

My parents aren't the most detailed when it comes to taking photos. Truth be told, something like shooting an outfit post isn't something they're used to do. So, it was soooo hard to even get this one decent photo. I had to result to auto-focusing, non-aligned photos, and the most awkward composing. I'll show you guys what I meant.

Heritage and Peace

 Hello from Bataan!

I'm writing this post as we're resting here in our room at Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar. I am so happy to be staying here tonight. This place is beyond what I expected and I have no regrets whatsoever in coming here. We got here at around 10am and went on the morning tour of the resort. If you don't know much about Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar, it's a heritage resort which boasts of it's beautiful restored houses from all over the Philippines that could be dated back up to the 1700s. Could you imagine the amount of time and effort the owner of this resort had put just to preserve these ancestral houses?

We took a tour of the place and our guide was a wonderful lady with such wit and humour that our group she handled fell in love with her. She had some facts and tales about the houses we visited and I'm pretty sure history buffs would love this place. As for me, I fell in love with the intrinsic beauty that this place exudes. Almost every part of this resort is photo ready and you'll always find a place that'll look awesome as a backdrop for a film, a shoot, or an OOTD background. It's just gorgeous.

I'll be posting more photos on a separate post about Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar. I'm telling you guys now, it's really worth it to stay here even for just a night.

Where Are You, RA?

I'm writing this post right now as I take a small break from packing my clothes for the weekend I'll be spending with my parents in Bataan. We'll be going on a weekend trip to go around the city, climb Mt. Samat, and to visit the historical places in the city.

On our first night, we'll be staying in Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar. This is something I'm really looking forward to since I've heard so much about it and have seen some photos that are just beyond beautiful. The Spanish influence in the architecture is a must see and I can't wait to put my camera into good use.

Photo from Las Casas' official website.

We'll also be staying in The Plaza Hotel Bataan, which is this old building that is just bursting with history and Spanish influence. I can't wait to go there tomorrow and experience the locale, the history, and the food (of course).

Photo of The Plaza Hotel Bataan courtesy of Philstar
I just wanted to do a quick update here since I haven't posted much. I'm also going to do a post of when I went to Laiya, Batangas with my parents during the Labor Day holiday. I'll keep you guys posted and hopefully, you'll like the content I'll be dishing out here on my blog. I've got a lot of things lined up and I've been learning a lot of things in school lately so you might get to see some of that in the near future.
